Prototype drop for World Series Baseball 2K1
World Series Baseball 2K1 is a baseball video game released exclusively on Dreamcast on July 17, 2000 in North America, and then on March 22, 2001 in Japan. It was developed by Visual Concepts and published by Sega with the license of Major League Baseball.
With more than 20 teams, and all their official players, it offers different game modes including the Hom Run Derby consisting of a series of 162 matches per season, play off included. The player's statistics are saved as they go and show their progress in different areas.
Who will be able to achieve the perfect match which consists for a pitcher to remove in order all the hitters of the opposing team, without one of them reaching first base?
For this important release, the builds are exceptional, it was not easy to find the peculiarities. They are many. I must have made a mistake, forgot. They will have to be confirmed.
It is interesting to see the evolution of the game's development from prototype to prototype.
The particularities of the prototype "WORLD SERIES BASEBALL 2K1 E3 V0.800 2000.04.25"
-
No window, when starting the game, with the "Mpeg Sofdec" logo
-
"White the permission" and not "white permission" on the window with the logo of the "Major League"
-
No kinematics
-
Font color, on the title screen, of the copyright "@Sega Entreprise LTD" and of the "Presented by Sega" in blue, not yellow.

-
The music is not the same, the presenter does not announce the game by saying "World Serie Baseball 2K1"
-
No VMU window after pressing Start at title screen.
-
For this E3 version, all game modes are locked except "Exhibition". Note that a "Tournament" mode exists while it is not present in the final version. The music is always different in this selection menu. The "Homerunderby" mode is also not usually present. The "Quick Start" is not yet implemented.

The explanation of the "Exhibition" mode, in its small window, is on 4 lines and not 3.
-
By selecting "Exhibition", we arrive in a sub-menu that does not exist on the commercial version, the "Select Mode". We should be on a window, the "Select Team" with the map of the USA. We can see that the "Player 2" at the top of the screen on the right is once again a variant of this build. Teams are locked.
-
When arriving at the stadium selection page, the icons showing these are different.

In the options, after having chosen your stage, past the "Select Controller" page, instead of having written "Difficulties", we have "Game speed". The choice of cameras has not yet been established. The "Injury" option is new, we cannot find it on the released game.

On the "Starter" page there are indications for devs like for example c559fc8. left and right c55a578. Only 3 players can be selected by teams instead of 5. The background color of these small selection windows should be black and not transparent.

The pre-match cinematics also have differences. First of all, the song, the hymn, is not present and sung by a woman or a man. The written presentation of the competing teams as well as the name of the stadium is non-existent. The entrance to the team is not what we are used to seeing (no close-ups, distant camera). There is no commentator.
-
The window with the statistics of the launcher for example is incomplete.
-
When it is finally our turn to play, after having passed the cutscene, the indication "Play Ball" in orange color should appear on the screen. There is none of that here.
-
In play, according to the player's indications, the "1st" is not in the rhombus that is supposed to represent the field. There is instead a "Top" which is unpublished in this version.
-
In the final version, we have a mundane in-game pause menu with the choices to come back to play or quit. Here, the START menu is more advanced with 5 possibilities, some of which are locked, "Change the player", "Change position", "Shift Fielder", "option" and finally "Cancel"

When the game announces a "Strike", a "Ball", "Out", or any other indication, they are colored blue and not orange.
