Virtua Figther 3tb Dreamcast Prototypes
Virtua Fighter 3tb is a Sega Model 3 Step 1.0 arcade fighting game developed by Sega AM2 and manufactured by Sega. It was an update of Virtua Fighter 3, first released in Japanese arcades in September 1997. The development studio Genki was in charge of the Dreamcast port which was released in 1998.
Among the very first titles of the Dreamcast, Sega offered players the most prestigious of its arcade games. Virtua Figther 3tb arrived on the first 128-bit console in history with twelve fighters, breathtaking scenery and a high degree of realism.
To mark the occasion and demonstrate the capabilities of its latest console, Sega had bet on the Dreamcast conversion of its arcade terminal success released two and a half years earlier. Virtua Figther 3tb DC was close to perfection, it was impossible to detect the slightest difference with the arcade game.
The graphics were fine and colourful and the fighters very detailed to the point of seeing different expressions on their faces. The scenery was poetic and splendid. The animation for its part was fluid, exactly what was needed for instinctive, thoughtful and pleasant to watch fights, as the movements of the different wrestlers were so realistic.
Yu Suzuki, the father of Virtua Figther and later Shenmue, wanted the main martial arts of Japan and China to be represented: kung fu, kempo, ninjutsu, aikido, sumo, jeet kun do, wrestling, pancrach, kick boxin, drunken boxing and praying mantis. These different fighting techniques could be played by choosing from 12 possible characters who fought in duels or in teams of 2 to 5 (Team Battle mode). The fighters, although few in number, were really different from each other.
